Activity No 2:Determine nature of roots of the quadratic equation.

    x² + 5x - 6 = 0

Solution: Compare x² + 5x - 6 = 0 with ax² + bx + c = 0.

    ∴a = , b = 5, c = ,

∴ b² - 4ac = 5² - 4 X X

           ∴ b²-4ac = 25 +

           ∴ b²-4ac = 49

     ∴ b² - 4ac > 0.
∴ The roots of the equation are real and unequal.
